I went looking for inspiration through some old sketchbooks and alongside the ideas of ripping and reassembling prints I also unearthed by abstract stuck and sewn printed squares. I decided to use some of the leaf monoprints to explore this further.
I liked the idea of some straight edges alongside some more feathery torn edges. I was thinking about the notion of straight lines and order and nature breaking out of that. I laid out the squares and photographed them before I added any stitch.

These now look much more finished, with their straight lines of stitch added. I want to stick them to some white paper and display then in a grid but haven't decided exactly how yet. I'm wondering about adding stitch around the outside of each , as though it's place is being marked and protected, similarly to when trees are planted with a stake and a little protective tube or fence around them. I need to decide on a colour, or multiple colours and how closely the stitch is going to sit alongside each square.
