Mud prints & pink trees

Jo Boddy

I had a great time today in the forest, I hunted for different tree trunk colours and made mud prints.

Making the mud prints gave me a moment of pure excitement - that feeling you get as you peel a print off a plate - 'what have I got?'. It was a really interesting way of collecting marks. I felt like a forager looking for things to collect and bring home for further examination. So much fun!

I noticed a couple of really pink tree trunks. This got me hunting for more. I often see bright orange trees but never really noticed many pink ones. I wonder whether this is something to do with the season or the weather? The silver birch were the most noticeable but there were a couple of different species looking rather pink so I'll have to keep tabs on them.

I really enjoyed looking for things, and collecting them in the forest so I want to do more of this sort of treasure hunting while I walk.
