Print at the Park Exhibition & Wisley

Jo Boddy

I've had a change of mind and decided to keep Rising Mist out the of the big upcoming exhibition, partly because we were only meant to be submitting 6/7 prints and that would mean I have two HUGE ones in there. But also because I have the big Craft in Focus fair at RHS Wisley which overlaps this exhibition over the very last weekend. It's infuriating as I was rather hoping to take any framed prints that hadn't sold at South Hill Park and be able to sell them myself at Wisley. It also means I have to bribe my husband to go and collect the SHP work and he'll have the children in tow as it's a bank holiday.

On the other hand I'm getting rather excited about Wisley. I'm going to be doing a demo throughout the show so I need to design a small linocut and decide whether to take a press or just print by hand, and so which paper, and how many to try and make etc etc. I'm also looking at it as a mini exhibition opportunity. I've got a grey back drop around my space which I can velcro things to, but from which I'm allowed to hang art using S hooks over the top and the hanging system I ordered arrived today. I've bought 10 clear plastic 2m long wires and two sizes of hooks which fix onto the wires, I've used this system before in Henley so I know it works. I'm really excited about curating a mini 'show' on my stand. I need to do a practise set up as I need to decide what to get framed and what browsers to take. I also want to have some books made as well as I'd like this to be a showcase of a body of work.

It's a fantastic selling opportunity and since it's cost over £1000 to be there I hope I can sell a few larger prints and cover the costs, but I'm mainly excited about meeting people, showing them what printmaking is and showing my work. When Jonathan was talking about the end of year show and saying that we can stay and hang about and talk to people about the work I found that a really exciting prospect. I want to have a really clear vision about what my piece represents and what it's life will be after the show. I'm already planning on turning it into many smaller pieces after it's been a large piece or pieces.

Anyway, there seems to be a lot going on at the moment what with risk assessments and framing and ordering equipment and thinking about lighting and attest statements and voice recordings and collaborative pieces. I'm feeling a bit all over the place, but quite energised by it all.... I think!

I must remember to get some of my one off pieces framed as I'm really excited by them!
