I'm having a bit of a panicky moment... Jonathan said that the essay/report/piece of writing thingy for unit 2 is going to take over but that it's really important to keep making and I'm worried that I'm now doing LOTS of making but paying very little attention to the writing.
I also have to admit that it's taken me a little by surprise. I thought that we were going to be researching our subject more deeply... I was all ready for background research into the forest and it's history but that's not what the assignment is about at all. I need to find something to excite me that I can thoroughly research and write about. I should have nosed into the year 2 blogs more deeply and looked ahead to unit 2 rather than just unit 1! I read their blogs but not the assignment. Typical me!
Now I'm stuck!
I just want to make the next print. I've got so many ideas and prints all lined up in my head that I don't want to get distracted by having to sit at the computer which is hilarious as I feel like I spent the first 3 months of the year dragging myself away from the computer and forcing myself to print!
I know i want to look into Neil Bousfield's work. I feel like he's very relevant - printmaker, dealing with his local landscape and the interactions of nature and humans. I'm struggling to find someone else who feels like a natural fit and I feel this is far too important to 'just pick someone'. I think I need to do lots of reading and research and just let that bit happen.... it'll happen I'm sure (hopefully in time!). I need a few more hours in the day though! Somehow it's already week 3 of term tomorrow and I don't feel any further on that I was in week 1. I haven't done any reading, I've done a couple of cursory google searches (which admittedly have thrown up some exciting possibilities) but I feel like I'm really slacking on the academic side.
On the making side I've almost finished a linocut, sent off my spider web etching and marked up the lino for a bluebell print which I'm also pondering in lithography. we also had a Print at the Park meeting ta the weekend and our collaborative project is going to be AMAZING - we're going to make a globe from wire and then each contribute pieces made on some textile stuff that you print/paint/stitch and then burn away. I can't wait to try it out!! I'm wondering whether I could use this technique for my final piece for the MA. Lots of experimentation required... like I said - the making is taking all the time at the moment!
'Red 25' a mountain bike trail in the Swinley Forest. A couple more layers required on the tree trunks which will be etched in caustic soda.
